Deceptive, O Deceptive: A Poem

Deceptive, O Deceptive
By: Andrew M. Gilhooley

Deceptive, O deceptive
Art thou, Present Age!
Filled with temporal pleasures and delights—
But the lot of those who embrace thee is death.

A feast thou host
And an eloquent banquet thou serve:
Rare meats and imported wines
To the joy of the gorging guests.

But with poison is the meat seasoned
And with toxins is the wine mixed.
As lead sinks into the waters
So shall the gluttons meet their doom.

Deceptive, O deceptive
Art thou, Present Age!
Filled with temporal pleasures and delights—
But the lot of those who embrace thee is death.
